World Bank figures put the voluntary carbon market volume in 2005 at 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e), less than 1 per cent of global market volume dominated by regulatory regimes such as the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and Kyoto’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
